Network engineering and automation

Carrier-grade networks, from BGP and SD-WAN to firewalls and voice, run through a source of truth and automated so changes are fast, reviewed and repeatable.

What I do

  • BGP routing, VLAN design and multi-site connectivity
  • SD-WAN, firewalls and VPNs (including FortiGate)
  • Storage networking and SANs
  • VoIP and PBX platforms at scale, including FusionPBX
  • Authoritative DNS with PowerDNS
  • NetBox as the network source of truth, with API-driven workflows
  • Network automation in Go, Python and Ansible (including AWX), plus NOC tooling

How I approach it

Network automation only works on top of good data, so the first step is a trustworthy source of truth. From there, changes are generated, validated and pushed by tooling rather than typed by hand.

I build the tools a NOC actually uses: integrations between NetBox, Git, CI pipelines, monitoring and device APIs, written in Go and Python and kept deliberately simple to operate.

Track record

  • Managed firewalls, SANs, switching, VLANs, BGP and SD-WAN across multiple data centres, plus 2,000+ VoIP/PBX clients.

    Next Generation Networks
  • Built Go and Python tooling integrating APIs, GitLab/GitHub, Jenkins, NetBox DCIM, MongoDB and Redis for the network operations team.

    Macquarie Technology Group
  • Owned firewall and VPN networks, switching, VLANs and BGP across colocation sites.

    HoneyBee International
  • Contributed a vlanid label for interface metrics to the Prometheus community FortiGate exporter (merged).

FAQ

Questions people ask

What network automation tools does Jad Seifeddine use?

Jad automates networks with NetBox as the source of truth, Ansible and AWX for configuration, and custom Go and Python tooling that integrates device APIs, Git, Jenkins, MongoDB and Redis. Jad has published Ansible inventory plugins and an idempotent router firmware-upgrade playbook on GitHub.

Does Jad Seifeddine have VoIP and PBX experience?

Yes. Jad has run VoIP and PBX platforms serving more than 2,000 clients and built click-to-call, a native macOS app in Rust that places calls through FusionPBX from any tel: link.
