Project

NetBox MCP server and chatbot

Ask your network questions in plain language, answered from NetBox by a self-hosted LLM.

PythonAuthorApache-2.0 licenceSince 2025

Overview

Builds on NetBox Labs' read-only Model Context Protocol server. The project exposes the server through mcpo as standard OpenAPI endpoints and adds a chatbot that connects it to an internal, OpenAI-compatible LLM, so infrastructure questions can be answered without sending data to a public AI service.

Highlights

  1. Read-only tools for NetBox objects, object lookups by ID and change logs (the audit trail)
  2. Questions such as “What Cisco devices are in this site?” or “Who changed the core router last week?”
  3. mcpo bridge so any OpenAI-compatible model can call the MCP tools
  4. Works with self-hosted models, for example through Ollama
